Abstract:
Objective To explore the effect of "knowledge, belief and practice" oral health education model on oral health and quality of life of preschool children.
Methods A total of 565 children and their parents were given 12 months' oral health education by using the "knowledge, belief and practice" oral health education model. The changes of parents' oral health knowledge and behavior, detection rates of children's oral diseases and scores of oral health related quality of life scale for children (ECOHIS) were compared before and after intervention.
Results At the end of the intervention, The parents' oral health knowledge and behaviors were significantly improved compared to those before intervention (
P<0.01). The detection rate of oral diseases, the overall score of ECOHIS and the score of ECOHIS in children with or without caries were significantly lower than those before intervention (
P<0.05,
P<0.01).
Conclusion The oral health education of " knowledge, belief and practice" is beneficial to the prevention of children's oral diseases and the improvement of their quality of life.
