Abstract:
Objective To investigate professional ability, current situation of management, problems and demands among management personnel of major public health projects in maternal and children health institutions(MCH) in Guangdong Province, so as to provide suggestions to improve public health management capacity.
Methods Questionnaire survey and in-depth interview were used to collect data based on regional difference. Questionnaire and interview outline were developed through literature review and expert consultation.
Results A total of 141 questionnaires were collected, and 82. 27% project management personnel were female, 56. 03% were undergraduate, education background of management and public health accounted for 85. 11%, 52. 48% were full-time engaged in major public health project management, and 82. 27% were responsible for two or more projects concurrently. Their daily work contents were different based on different institution levels, and all project managers expressed urgent needs to improve their ability of communication and coordination, data processing and clinical knowledge, etc.
Conclusion The age distribution and professional composition of major public health project managers in MCH institutions in Guangdong Province are reasonable. But there is still a gap between the amount of health professionals and workload. While strengthening the health management in MCH institutions, it is also necessary to reinforce the construction of management talents for major public health projects.
