Objective To analyze resource allocation and operation status of maternal and child health (MCH) institutions at all levels in 2021 so as to provide evidence for future development planning of MCH institutions in Wuhu, Anhui.

Methods Data on resource allocation, human resources, income and operation of 9 MCH institutions in Wuhu in 2021 from 'the National Information System for Monitoring and Management of MCH Institutions' were obtained and analyzed.

Results 1 municipal-level and 8 county-level MCH institutions were short of human resources, and only 2 county-level MCH institutions had sufficient authorized staff meeting the criterion in Wuhu. All MCH institutions were seriously short of working space, being lower than that of national average. Municipal MCH institution was operating relatively well, but gap still existed compared to developed regions nationwide. The number of services and service contents of MCH institutions at district and county levels were much lower than those of the national average.

Conclusion The operation of MCH institutions at Wuhu, Anhui still faces many problems. Therefore government support should be increased, investment in infrastructure construction should be strengthened, construction of talent team should be enhanced, and demand-oriented superior disciplines should be built to accelerate the promotion of new models of MCH services.
