A survey on willingness and obstacles of use of mother and child health manual in Guangdong in 2017

  • Objective To understand the willingness and obstacles of clients and medical staff on the promototion and application of the Mother and Child Health Handbook,so as to provide a basis for further application and protection of maternal and child health. Methods The pregnant women and parents of children, who went to the obstetrics clinic and child health clinic of the health care institution, and the maternal and child health care managers or health care personnel of the health care institution were selected as subjects of the survey. A self-design questionnaire was used to investigate the pregnant women and children's parents before and after the use of the handbook and the medical staff. Results Result of the survey for pregnant women or children's parents was that 55.8%(310/556) of the respondents heard about the Mother and Child Health Handbook. Different survey subjects and their educational level had an impact on the choice of using the Form of Mother and Child Health Handbook, but they were more inclined to choose both paper and electronic manuals at the same time. The main obstacles to use the electronic version of the manual were fear of information disclosure(35.3%),complicated registration verification(19.4%),and inadequate institutional coverage(18.9%).According to a survey of medical staff,44.2%(76/172) thought that the electronic version was a good form. There were 40.1%(69/172) choices for both paper and electronic manuals. The main obstacles to use the electronic version were that medical staff entered amount of information and they were unwilling to cooperate(63.2%,108/171),the patient did not operate(49.1%,84/171),and the coverage of the user was low(47.1%,80/170). The main reason for the respondents to choose the application form was the ease of use. Conclusion The organizational implementation and conducting propaganda of the manual should be strengthened in the popularization and application. Focus on the convenience for the client and the medical staff, paper and electronic manuals should be applied at the same time, with emphasis on the convenience of both the clients and the medical staff.
