The relationship between advanced glycation end products and gestational diabetes mellitus

  • Objective To explore the relationship and mechanism between AGEs and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) by measuring the level of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in pregnant women. Methods A total of 40 pregnant women with GDM who visited the people's hospital of chengyang in Qingdao from March to May 2018 were selected, and 40 pregnant women with normal glucose tolerance during the same period were selected as the control group. The levels of fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, hypersensitive c-reactive protein (hs-crp), AGEs were measured, and HOMA-IR was calculated. The above indicators were statistically analyzed. Results Fasting blood glucose, HOMA-IR, AGEs and hs-CRP in the GDM group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The AGEs of GDM group were positively correlated with fasting glucose, HOMA-IR and hsCRP, and negatively correlated with fasting insulin. Conclusions AGEs may affect the involvement of inflammatory factors in the development and progression of GDM.
