Descriptive epidemiology study on polydactyly and syndactyly in Heyuan,China,from 2011 to 2017

Abstract
Objective To analyze the prevalence of Polydactyly and Syndactyly between 2011 and 2017 in Heyuan, Guangdong province, China. Method The study involved birth defects monitor records of mothers and infants (28 weeks gestation to 7 days after birth) between 2011 and 2017 from monitoring hospital in Heyuan. Key information of mothers of the children with polydactyly and syndactyly were collected. The time and population distribution characteristics of polydactyly and syndactyly were analyzed using descriptive statistics method.Results We observed a total of 130, 484 perinatal infant's medical records and the detection rate of polydactyly was 18.01/10, 000 births with 235 cases during 2011 ng 37.The detection rate of syndactyly was 6.44/10, 000 births with 84 cases during 2011-2017.The total detection rates of multiple polydactyly and syndactyly in the> 35 years old age group were the highest, and they were 26.12/10000 and 10.26/10 000, respectively. The ratio of male and female detection rate of polydactyly was 1.73, and the ratio of of male and female detection rate of syndactyly was 1.59. The live birth rate of congenital polydactyly or syndactyly perinatal infants was high, and the syndactyly male infants was the lowest (94. 44%).Conclusions It's necessary to strengthen the study on risk factors of polydactyly and syndactyly, to provide health education about polydactyly and syndactyly to the general population, and to strengthen the systematic treatment and intervention of live births with multiple fingers (toes).
