Analysis on the maternal mortality in Jilin province from 2014 to 2019

Objective To discuss the influencing factors of maternal mortality and to provide the reference for relevant strategies,thus to further reduce the maternal mortality and enhance the maternal and child health care level. Method A total of 167 maternal deaths in Jilin Province from 2014 to 2019 were collected. The basic information, diagnosis of the cause of death, and provincial review results were statistically analyzed. Result In the past 6 years, the maternal mortality showed an overall downward trend(P< 0. 05).The average age of death cases has increased in the past three years(P< 0. 05). Cesarean section was the main method of delivery for death cases. The death cases who died from direct obstetrical causes accounted for 44. 71% of the total deaths. Obstetrical hemorrhage was the leading cause of direct obstetrical death. 50. 3% maternal deaths of these cases could be avoided.Conclusion The implementation of two-child policy, decreasing of the local population, and the increase in the proportion of high-risk pregnancy and the decline in the number of live births have all posed a severe test to reduce maternal mortality. Comprehensive obstetric service ability and the management should be further improved, these measures are the keys to further reduce maternal mortality and ensure the safety of mothers and their children.
