Analysis of birth defects monitoring results in Yunfu city 2015-2019

  • Objective To explore the incidence, types and trend of birth defects in Yunfu city, and to provide scientific evidence for making intervention measures for birth defects. Methods According to China birth defect monitoring program and Guangdong Maternal and child health monitoring program, the data from 2015 to 2019 in Yunfu were analyzed retrospectively. Results The average incidence of birth defects in Yunfu from 2015 to 2019 was 90. 84 per million(1 729/190 339), and the incidence of birth defects showed increasing year by year. There was significantly different in the incidence of birth defects(χ2= 32. 40,P< 0. 05); The incidence of birth defects in males(104. 18/10 000) was higher than that in females(74. 96/10 000), the difference was statistically significant(χ2= 45. 05,P< 0. 05), and the incidence of birth defects in perinatal infants living in cities(101. 79/10 000) was higher than that in rural areas(88. 59/10 000), there was significant difference between urban and rural areas(χ2= 5. 18,P< 0. 05), and the incidence of birth defects in mothers aged < 20 and ≥35 years was significantly higher than that in mothers aged 20-, 25-and 30-years. From 2015 to 2019, the highest incidence of birth defect was polydactyly(Toe) or syndactyly(toe). In 2016, congenital heart defect replaced 2015's fetal Edema Syndrome,and was ranked 5 th. Conclusion The high incidence of birth defects in Yunfu is polydactyly or syndactyly and cleft lip and palate, and the incidence of birth defects is on the rise every year. It is necessary to strengthen three-level prevention and control measures to reduce birth defects and improve the quality of birth population.
