Abstract
Objective To investigate dynamic changes of preschool children refractive status in Bao'an District. Methods Cluster sampling was used to recruit 446 children in 4 kindergartens in Bao'an District,Shenzhen. Refractive status was measured by Wellens Suresight hand-held autorefractor, and those kids were followed up for 5 semesters. Results Spherical Diopters in 5 continuous semesters from second term of primary class to second term of senior class were(1. 46 ± 0. 59) D,(1. 40 ± 0. 66) D,(1. 39 ± 0. 68) D,(1. 39 ± 0. 70) D,(1. 28 ± 0. 69) D,while the diopters of cylindrical power were(-0. 65 ± 0. 72) D,(-0. 66 ±0. 79) D,(-0. 72 ± 0. 86) D,(-0. 72 ± 0. 96) D,(-0. 67 ± 0. 92) D. With the semester passed, the number of hyperopic eyes decreased from 872 to 813,while the number of emmetropic eyes increased from 12 to 49 and the number of myopic eyes increased from 8 to 30. The difference was statistically significant(P< 0. 05). Conclusion With the increase of age, spherical diopters decreased gradually, while the cylindrical diopters changed in a waving trend. The number of emmetropia and myopia increased while the number of hyperopia decreased with age,but the mumber of astigmatism remained stable. Dynamic changing patterns of preschool children's refractive status should be discovered to develop targeted eye care program for them in order for early detection and intervention of refractive abnormality.
