Occurrence and factors of neonatal infectious pneumonia among 712 hospitalized cases

  • Objective To explore occurrence and factors of neonatal infectious pneumonia. Methods Clinical data of 712 hospitalized newborns in Xinxiang hospital from June,2018 to May,2020 were reviewed. Results 71 cases of infectious pneumonia occurred among these 712 newborns. Prevalence rate was 9. 71%. A total of 78 strains of pathogenic bacteria were detected in those 71 cases, including gram-negative bacteria(Escherichia coli,Klebsiella pneumoniae,etc.),gram-positive bacteria(Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis, etc.),fungi(Candida albicans). The percentages of gestational age < 37 weeks, birth weight< 1 500 g,serum albumin < 28 g/L,premature rupture of membranes, amniotic fluid contamination, intrauterine distress, and endotracheal intubation were significantly higher among neonates with infectious pneumonia than those without this disease(P< 0. 05).Gestational age < 37 weeks, birth weight < 1 500 g,serum albumin < 28 g/L,premature rupture of membranes, amniotic fluid contamination, intrauterine distress and endotracheal intubation were independent risk factors of infectious pneumonia(P< 0. 05). Conclusion Gram negative bacteria is the main pathogen causing neonatal infectious pneumonia. Other factors can also lead to neonatal infectious pneumonia, which should be paid close attention by medical staffs.
