Analysis on monitoring data of perinatal birth defects in a maternal and child health hospital in Dongchangfu District,Liaocheng,Shandong,2016-2020

Abstract
ObjectiveTo understand the current situation and factors related to perinatal birth defects in Dongchangfu District,Liaocheng so as to provide scientific evidence for developing strategies of birth defects prevention and control.MethodsBirth defect registration cards and perinatal quarterly reports were collected from a maternal and child health (MCH) hospital in Dongchangfu District, Liaocheng from January 1st 2016 to December 31th 2020. The clinical data of these perinatal birth defects were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsA total of 785 cases of birth defects were detected in 97 198 perinatal infants. The incidence of birth defects in 5 years was 52. 15/10 000, 91. 72/10 000, 91. 06/10 000, 90. 56/10 000, 86. 67/10 000, and the average rate of birth defects was 80. 76/10 000. The common birth defects included congenital heart disease, polydactyly or syndactyly, microtia or anotia, other external ear malformation, rachischisis or cephalocele, and hypospadias. The proportion of elderly puerpera, urban-residents and male gender among infants with birth defects was significantly higher than that of infants without birth defects(P< 0. 05).ConclusionThe incidence of birth defects in Liaocheng is increasing year by year. Special attention should be paid to elderly pregnant women,prevention and control of perinatal congenital heart disease. In addition, health education of birth defects and consolidation of comprehensive intervention of three-level birth defects prevention should be reinforced to reduce the incidence of birth defects and improve life quality of these children.
