Study on the prevalence and factors associated with injuries among preschool children in Tunxi District,Huangshan,Anhui

  • Objective To investigate the prevalence and factors associated with injury among preschool children,so as to provide evidence for the development of prevention and intervention strategy.Methods Totally 1 024 preschool children in Tunxi District,Huangshan were recruited.The chi-square test was used to compare the prevalence of injury among preschool children in different groups.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the factors associated with injury among preschool children in Tunxi District,Huangshan.Results Prevalence of injuries among 1 024 preschool children was 33.1%.The reporting rates of one type,two types and three or more types of injuries were 25.4%,5.6%and 2.1%,respectively.The prevalence of injury was higher among preschool children whose gender was male,private kindergarten,mothers with lower education background,poor family conditions and inconsistent parental educational concepts(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression showed that girls had lower risk of injuries than boys (P<0.05).Private kindergartens and inconsistent parental educational concepts could increase the risk of injuries compared with public kindergartens and consistent parental education concepts(P<0.05).Conclusion The prevalence of injuries among preschool children in Tunxi District,Huangshan was relatively high.Boys,private kindergartens,lower mothers’education background,poor family conditions,and inconsistent parental educational concepts were main factors associated with it.
