Objective To investigate the basic situation of kindergartens at Shijingshan District and the awareness of professional knowledge among health care workers, so as to provide evidence for effective health care.
Methods Trained maternal & child health care hospital staff were interviewed through questionnaire survey to investigate all registered kindergartens in Shijingshan District, and health care workers in kindergartens were tested to investigate their basic situation and awareness of professional knowledge from June 1st to 30th, 2019.
Results There had been 58 registered kindergartens in Shijingshan District, among which 23 were public and 35 were private until June 30th, 2019. 12 888 children and 141 health care workers (full-time or part-time) were registered in these kindergartens. The ratio of children to health care workers was about 91∶1. 90.91% public kindergartens had full-time health workers and 81.82% had medical education background, while those number for private kindergartens were 61.63% (χ2 = 14.610, P = 0.017) and 32.56%(χ2 = 32.602, P = 0.021), respectively. The awareness rate of professional knowledge in terms of daily life management, prevention and treatment of common diseases, prevention and control of infectious diseases, regular health management and rational diet among health care workers in public kindergartens was higher than those in private kindergartens (all P < 0.05). The awareness rate of knowledge about infectious disease prevention and control was only 60.71%, while the number of other four aspects was more than 90.00% among all health workers.
Conclusion Full-time health care personnel with medical knowledge needs to be increased in private kindergartens. All health care workers' ability of infectious diseases prevention and control needs to be strengthened in order to improve the quality of health care.
