Application of PDCA circulation to improve the participation rate in pregnant school

Abstract
Objective To increase the participation rate of pregnant women school, popularize the knowledge of the prenatal and postnatal care and promote the maternal and children health level.Methods In July 2016, PDCA circulation was used to investigate and analyze the status and existing problems of low participation rate in pregnant school from January to June in our hospital outpatient clinic. According to the problems and causes found by the analysis, intervention measures were developed and carried out. These measures included to strengthen the propaganda of pregnant women's school, to stimulate the motivation of pregnant women, to adjust and complement the contents of lectures, to guide the teaching skills and methods, and to improve the teaching environment and facilities. Then, the effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated and the effective measures were used in daily management.Results Compared with January to June, during July to December, the number of classes increased 45%. The number of clients in the school increased 91.1%. The average participation rate increased from 47% to 61.24%. It increased by 14.24%. The target-reaching rate was 109.5%.Conclusions Using the PDCA theory and methods to carry out teaching activities can develop person's enthusiasm and creativity, promote continuous improvement of pregnant women school work, and improve the participation enthusiasm of pregnant woman and their family members. At the same time, the team members have also learned more quality management methods through the PDCA.
